Having quilts made sounds really lovely, and I'm sure your daughters will love them.

I would talk to whoever would be making the quilts about what materials are best for this and if there are any other considerations in picking items for the quilts before you finish sorting through all of them.

There's no shortage of donated baby clothes in the world, and it sounds like you'll still have some to donate if you want to.

Trust me, there's enough discarded clothing around for the "innocent babies". Op can hold on to a few keepsake pieces and no one will suffer.

Quilting is not as easy as it looks. To make a beautiful quilt, you need to know what you are doing. I'd just donate the clothes as well.

I see no problem holding a few items in a keepsake box. Of course, I'll have to weed through the keepsake box as they get older and have more firsts, but I really don't see a problem with one box of sentimental items.

my mother in law gave me a few outfits for DS that were worn by DH when he was a baby. The material was so old and stiff that they really could not be worn by a baby. I saved them and I'm not sure what to do with them now.

I totally want to do this and was wondering where to find people who can do it.

Totally disagree here. Your girls might not care when they're little, but I've had a quilt my mom made me for over 20 years. Used to be on my bed and now it's our couch blanket. I love it. If my mom had made it out of my old clothes I know DD would love it, and I probably would have it on her bed.

My roommate bought her nephew a bunch of auntie onsies when he was born. Now that he's older, she made him a quilt/blanket from the onsies now called the auntie-blanket.

My great-grandmother used to make quilts out of their old clothes--not for sentimental value, but because she was a super-frugal Scot. We have some really beautiful quilts she made, and my dad can look at them and remember the pajamas or dresses or shirts that they came from. I have one and I love it.

I don't think its creepy at all and I am not a crafty person, nor particularly attached to things/ hang on to stuff (other than photos). I know people who made blankets (quilts I guess but not the fancier Amish type) from high school and college tee shirts for sports teams and things like that. Why not?

I think this is a great idea. I could see my DD really loving this. If I had one from when I was a kid, I could see her really loving that as well. I don't think it's crazy at all!

I've saved baby clothes too-similar to what you have done. MIL saved a ton of stuff from when DH was a baby. We have only girls so we haven't been able to use much of it, but I have it all stored with DD's baby clothes. Maybe I'll make a quilt too!

I have a ton of baby clothes that were used by my two DDs. I was sorting through the clothes to see what I could give away and which ones are too far gone. I'm having trouble giving some of the clothes away because I associate them with my babies (like their going home from the hospital clothes, clothes worn in first formal pictures, etc.). I know this is totally impractical and I don't want to turn into a hoarder but I want to keep some of the clothes. I found some sites will make these clothes into quilts. Is this creepy? Has anyone done this and if so do your kids like the quilts?

Writing this down makes me think it sounds a bit crazy! I would give the quilts to my DDs if that makes it more sane.
