Our daughter had to be put on it at age 29 when she underwent chemo and radiation treatment for a serious cancer. She said it brought on premature menopause symptoms. I would think there would be other options for an adolescent. She had night sweats at times for example. I am not sure I would rely on just a pediatrician - maybe also get input from an OB/GYN on long-term possible ramifications. It was to close down her reproductive system and protect it, which it did as she gave birth to healthy twin daughters on the first "real try" two years after treatment ended. If this condition has a social/emotional component to it, be sure the child also have appropriate therapy and behavior modification because a pill or shot alone is not going to do it.
