Let me guess...your sister also had a "gender reveal" party where everyone had to stand around while she cut a cake to see if it was blue or pink.

I gave mine a cupcake, she enjoyed playing with the frosting, but spit it out when she tried it! Too sweet!

My parents have an old tape video of my first birthday cake. I took a video of my children's first birthday cakes. We used blue frosting on top and everything.

My first DS picked at it a bit and didn't really know what to make of it. My second DS dug in with both hands and ate every crumb.

I guess I'm trashy.

Didn't have a smash cake - but had a huge catered birthday dinner party for over 100 people, with entertainment and open bar.

Why? Because in our culture, 1st birthday is a big deal.

It's called a smash cake... I guess it's a newish thing in an era when many kids have never seen sugar in their lives before their first birthday...

Bahahahaha -Godzilla cake! Love it! Much better term than smash cake, which is what I'd always heard.

No, we didn't have one. We didn't have a party, just us and the grandparents, and I didn't see a need. I doubt we would've done it at a party either, though my MIL would've loved it as a photo op.

I am not going to do a whole cake, but I fully intend to do a little cupcake.

So I hate to make another mom-war thread, but this is something that really makes me cringe. My sister recently had niece's 1st birthday party and gave her a big frosted cake on her high chair for niece to pulverize, smear all over, and devour. Ugh. I know this is pretty common, but I find it revolting. What say DCUM? Did your 1 year old get to Godzilla a cake, or is it in poor taste?

P.s. I know-- who cares, none of my business, etc. don't bother telling me this, I know! That's why I said nothing and put it on DCUM instead!
