I have spilled many blueberries on our floor and eaten them (stupid easily opened clamshell containers). My only worry is scooping them up before the dog gets them.

Hell, I'd probably eat them without washing, but in the interest of being clean, give them a good rinse in a colander and eat up.

Either:
thoroughly rinse them under water and eat them
Or:
wash them and pat dry with a kitchen towel. Grind them and add equal amount of sugar and boil until the syrup thickens. You can use this as jam or syrup to eat with pancakes.

These are blueberries that were grown outside in the dirt, right?

And why would PP suggest not giving the washed blueberries to a kid?

Considering throwing them away is a total overreaction. You simply need to wash them.

What? Is this real?
Yes you can eat them. Just wash them with water.
Do you think they were grown in pristine conditions never exposed to dirt? Bugs!

I'd wash them thoroughly and enjoy. Maybe don't give to a small child, but adults should be okay.

1/2 our freshly picked from the orchard blueberries had a freak accident and spilled all over the kitchen floor . The floor had been swept the night before, but hasn't been mopped in awhile. We are a no shoes house, but have a dog. We picked them up, but are questioning if we should wash them/freeze them/discard them. Seems silly to think of them as dirty since we picked them outside and they hadn't been washed yet. WWYD?
