Agree. This is a non-issue. Parents have time to plan in advance. March or May is quite a ways off. I applaud the SB and the new super.

The master schedule! The principals have a lot of work to do to figure this out in their schools by fall!

Eight weeks isn't enough time? Really?

However you need more than 2 months to work out the logistics and implementation for a system as a large as FCPS.

Why? Buses are the same as T-F. Almost every school system does not have a half day during the week.

I am a proponent for the full day Monday. However you need more than 2 months to work out the logistics and implementation for a system as a large as FCPS.

Whatever. There's always hiccups on something new.

This is beyond hiccups. It is just the latest in the mess.

AP exams are also typically the first 2 weeks in May.

I'm sure the problem with re-setting that date is that (a) it has to be earlier, not later than May 4th b/c it probably involves prep plans for SOLs, and (b) April has a long spring break with two Mondays off, so moving it back into Mar. was probably the only optionl.

As for the "test" conflicts -- I don't know if this is the exact reason, but it just so happens that SATs are scheduled for the Sat. prior to Columbus Day and the Sat. prior to May 4th. Maybe there was some push back on those dates for a reason that wasn't obvious.

If you already wrote down the new calendar based on the June 26th school board vote, you might want to get out the eraser. Looks like they are planning to change a couple of the kids-days-off b/c the previous plan conflicted with some sort of tests.

New days off (to be confirmed later this month) ----> NO 4 day Columbus Day wknd (darn!). Instead, Sept. 29th will be the teacher workday instead of the day after Columbus Day. And May 4th will no longer be a student holiday... it'll be Mar. 16th (I think I remembered that right). It's in the Board Docs for the work session on July 10 (yesterday). They will finalize it with a vote later this month.
