That's the way things were done back then. I'm sure it wasn't up to her whether they used her voice or not, whether the singers were uncredited, who was nominated for what, or whether she got the Oscar or not. I don't see it as reflecting poorly on her as a person or as an actress.

It may be how things were done in 1961. She's 82 and I've never heard her mention the other women who sang as well on the soundtrack. Moreno is talented but she's gotten accolades and praise for over 50 years for an accomplishment that's not completely hers. She could at least acknowledge the other talent. What an egomaniac. It's not like the Oscar gets taken away.

Great You Tube playlist of classic movie scenes with the actors using their own voices to sing their parts. In many of these, it is abundantly clear why the powers that be chose to dub the actors!

I really love Rita Moreno. However, I didn't know that she didn't sing most of the songs for West Side Story. I learn something new each day.

Betty Wand and Marni Nixon (who also was the voice for Natalie Wood).

You'll probably remember Marni Nixon as a nun in Sound of Music. She was also the voice for Audrey Hepburn in My Fair Lady and Deborah Kerr's voice for The King and I. She's amazing and I don't understand why she just wouldn't have been cast outright in many of the roles.

Loved this piece. Loved many of the quotes, but particularly enjoyed her comments about Brando. Would love to have dinner with this woman. I've seen her in person recently, fairly up close, and she's got an incredibly youthful vibe and still looks fantastic. She makes me wish I hadn't stopped dancing so I could look like her in my 80s.
