My mom has always historically made baked ziti with coin-sliced sausage.

She goes a bit overboard on everything for my taste.

Yes, she's pretty ham-handed with her ingredients IMO (pardon the pun).

+1. Pioneer Woman is feeding ranchers and shit...that's probably why she uses the 2:1 ratio.

+1 usually what I do too

And many people DO use meat - ground beef, italian sausage - in baked ziti.

I usually use 1 lb. of meat per 1/2 lb of pasta. I found that it really did not make that much of a difference. We still had pasta in every bite.

if you like it better with less meat, then there's your answer. make it whatever way you prefer and who cares what everyone else does?

Baked ziti doesn't have meat. Are you sure you're not accidentally making lasagna?

So, the recipe stated 2 pounds of meat for 1 pound (box) of pasta... The first 2 times I made the recipe, I only had a pound of ground beef, so that was all I used and it turned out great... Yesterday, I had 2 pounds and put them both in and its SO heavy now. Just seems like too much... But maybe this is how it is supposed tobe?

What are you meat to pasta proportions?
