What?!? That's crazy. You should in fact let hot food cool to room temperature before refrigerating. What could possibly happen to steamed broccoli in three hours on a counter?
The issue to me was NOT the safety of the food. I happen to agree the broccoli ok.

The issue here is that if OP is concerned enough to start a thread about it, then it is not worth her worrying about it, so just toss it! In other words, the topic is NOT "thread worthy" (IMO.)
