I hate to sound like a cynic, but I agree with the PPs. They probably want to keep you to wrap things up and then let you go on their terms. Trust your instincts about your head being on the chopping block, unless that feeling was due to circumstances outside of your control that are no longer relevant. Maybe work out an exit strategy with your boss (that you'll stay for X weeks/months or something like that).

I think you should go. For all the reasons PPs stated. Remember that there was a reason you quit.

I agree. I definitely want to stay on good terms. I love my teammates, but I just don't think the job is a fit for me anymore. I could make it work and stay, but I am not sure if I still wouldn't be gone in another 6 month to a year.

OP here- this is what I'm struggling with. Not sure I have the energy to change gears when I had already made up my mind.

If there is something you want that would make the job better (Fridays off, different hours, etc) ask for it. If you get it, stay and see how it goes. Otherwise I'd be inclined to lean towards leaving.

You don't want to burn bridges, though, so if your boss put on the hard sell consider discussing why the boss wants you so badly - and if it's just because it will take them time to replace you then you could agree either stay on for an agreed period or quit and come back on as a consultant for [x] weeks.

I had the same thing happen to me at a job once. Same situation, surprised my boss wanted me to stay etc. About two months later I was let go -- after I finished a major ghost writing project for my boss. Convenient for him.

Tried to quit my job today. My boss seemed fine with it and said she understood. Our departments director, however, put on the hard sell for me to stay. I wasn't expecting this and said I would take a couple days to think about it. I wasn't given any offer to keep me there, but the director did make a strong case. Also, I had previously thought my head was on the chopping block, so hearing that they do actually want me there was a surprise. Now I'm torn. How do you decide to stay or go? It's a good job at a good company. I had planned to take a break from the workforce for a few months to see if I should get into another field or possibly start my own business, but I know that path won't be easy.
