Any ideas on social club (pool only) membership? We are on all the waitlists in Arlington but might bite the bullet and pay more to get some pool sooner.

Are the instructional programs good? Do the kids join the tennis team? Is there a golf team for kids?

Is there a huge discrepancy between military and non military? DH's family is military, and extremely insular. In fact, decades after FIL died, MIL still only spends time with military wives. I would think non-military may subsidize the CC, but really may feel left out? Anyone?

If yo are not military, are you as "welcomed"? It does not seem so with the higher fees.

We are members (non-military) and use it alot. We paid around 55k initiation, but you can pay it over 5 years. I know the military initiation is much, much less. I think it varies with your military rank.
Our kids play tennis but don't do swim team. DH and I play tennis and golf, but only occasionally.
We go for dinner a fair amount because we are pretty much guaranteed to run into friends, which makes it more enjoyable for everyone. Kids can play a bit while we hang out with friends. Our kids are 9,5 and 3 and I think we will use it even more as they get older.
We live very close to the club - 7 or 8 minutes. If we lived farther we would likely use it less.
The food is just ok. It has a HUGE membership, so it certainly lacks the community feel of smaller club. There is a waiting list for pretty much everything, so if you are not organized and you don't pay attention to sign up dates, you will never get to go to anything.
Do thr social membership and try it out. Then upgrade if it works out.

We had a great time there for a couple 4th of July parties, DH played tennis a lot and occasional golf, and we went for dinner maybe 3 times over 4 years, before going inactive last year when our monthly dues went to over $500/month. It was mostly DH's thing--he likes a country club vibe, while I don't. He wanted to go for dinner and dinner events, while when we ever got a night out, I wanted to go DC. We have young kids, both work a lot, and it's a 30 minute drive to the club, so we almost never went. I think we may get more use out of it when the kids are older (tennis teams, swim teams, activities), but we'll see. It's really beautiful, the facilities are wonderful (and everything so new!) and people are friendly, but I can't say I enjoyed the food the handful of times we went.

We joined when DH was under 35 and an officer. I think initiation was around $3-4000, absolutely cheap for CC membership. Dues we're ok until he turned 35 or 36, when they jumped to 500+. If you live nearby, I bet you'd get a lot out of it. If it's a hassle to get kids ready and drive there, you may find yourselves like us and barely using it.

And to the PP, no, it's nothing like an officer's club. It's a true country club--a very nice one. Initiation costs for non-mil types is through the roof, but many find it completely worth it. It's the closest CC to the city.

Hmm, didn't know there were CCs for the military. Learn something new everyday. I guess this would be similar to an Officer's Club?

Hi! I've read some of the old posts on ANCC and I am starting a new thread because the others are so out of date.

DH is retired military.

Questions: 1. any insights as to what the initiation costs and annual dues are for military types?

2. Is the social membership worth it?

3. Do you use your membership often? If not, why?

4. Honestly, will we pack up the kids to go to dinner there versus somewhere else? If so, why?

5. Any other projects planned since the big renovation or is that it for the near future?

We are on vacation at the moment and it's too difficult to call the membership department and have an adult conversation with 3 kids running around -- any and all help appreciated!!
