If you're in Bethesda, there's a really outstanding cheese vendor at the Central Farm Market (Bethesda Elementary on Sundays). If that's not convenient, I usually head to Whole Foods. Or sometimes Balducci's.

Nobody beats Costco for cheese price/selection.

I've had good luck at wegmans. Otherwise, I pick cheese up at whole foods.

I usually do a mix of three types to a board:

--hard like a cheddar or manchego
--semi-soft like havarti, gouda
--soft like goat cheese, brie

I go to a specialty cheese shop like Cheesetique or Cowgirl Creamery and give them my price point and joe many servings I need- great reccomendations!
