Pipes and beer bottles make great launchers. Grab metal trashcan lids for shields.

Mame sure you are safe! Everyone needs to wear safety goggles! Keep a few water hoses handy for accidental fires.

Get all the men and boys in the neighborhood involved.

Great neighborhood fun

Make sure none go through the doublewide's windows, and watch the scraggly threads on your jorts- all that spilled bud lite is highly flammable.

Impromptu parade w the kids in the neighborhood. Call around and announce a __ pm meet up (w bikes, wagons, strollers, scooters, instruments) on your front lawn. Decorate vehicles and persons (hats, tshirts) with streamers. March, roll, stroll around the block a few times singing all the "America" songs you can think of:

* Star Spangled (natch)
* Grand Ol' Flag
* America, the Beautiful
* This Land is Your Land
* Yankee Doodle Dandee
* God Bless America
* My Country 'Tis of Thee

Afterwards, popsicles and a run through the sprinklers.

[Then go home and eat blueberry pie]

Of course, you must wear red, white and blue! Make as much of your menu as possible in those colors - cupcakes, veggies, fruits. Now is not the day for broccoli or celery or carrots. Popsicles. Definitely popsicles, preferably only the red, white and blue (buy multiple boxes if you have to).

Depending on your kids' ages, let them do crafts. Even water color paintings of flags that you've traced on paper. Find a parade! Watch fireworks, in person or on tv if your kids are still little. Sparklers for the kids if you aren't scared of them the way I am! Have a signature drink. A colleague was saying how his family always broke out the Budweiser and Pabst Blue Ribbon on the 4th. Disgusting, cheap stuff but a fun tradition. My family always took bloody marys to the neighborhood parade.

This is one of my favorite holidays, I come from a family with lots of military service members, and I love going all out with bunting, flags and the like.

Going to make a flag cake today - sheet cake with white frosting with strawberries and blueberries on top. Going to mix it up this year and try to marble the inside with red, white, and blue.
