It's still plastic though even if you don't put it in the dishwasher.

+1. We never use it for anything except water, so we rinse it out occasionally but we rarely wash it.

You can now get dishwasher safe sodastream bottles. I think I read they are not as durable. I don't drink directly from the bottles, for me it is not a big deal to put a drop of dish soap in, swish around with hot water & rinse. All the sodastream models do the same thing, pick the one you like looking at on the counter.

Ugh, just read that the supposedly dishwasher safe plastic bottles still melt. But I was much happier spending $69 for a Source than $179 for a Crystal. Guess I'll put this purchase off for a while...

OP: thanks for the heads up -- I am all about the dishwasher.

Looks like the only glass models are the Crystal and Penguin. But apparently you can get "dishwasher safe PEN" plastic bottles for the others models...

Do you want a plastic or glass bottle? Plastic ones are not dishwasher safe. What size bottle do you want? Concur with advice about the sensor and look of the machine (plastic vs stainless).

The fridge

We got the Jet because it was (at least at the time) the cheapest one that fits the larger cylinders. 4.5 years of daily use and no problems.

I would get one that will fit the larger canister of CO2.

When we asked the guy at Bed, Bath, and Beyond what the difference was between the models he said it was basically stainless steel vs plastic and the more expensive model had a sensor that let you know when the canister was running low (which you can tell anyway without a sensor).
He basically said it wasn't worth it to buy the more expensive model and the cheaper one was fine. Three years in and it's working fine!
We do have a spare CO2 canister - we drink a lot of seltzer, too!

Okay, I'm inspired by the current thread on Sodastreams. I've wanted one for a while... But there's a bewildering array of models. Anyone have opinions on which one is best? Thanks! I drink a stupid amount of seltzer, so this would be kind to the environment....
