I would be interested in figuring out how to lobby to get Medicaid changed. My neighbor's child was born with a heart condition; he's being monitored and will probably need another procedure at 13 or 14. He's 7. He automatically qualifies for secondary Medicaid and doesn't even use it since he has ER sponsored coverage and is doing so well which is such great news. However, lower income kids get Medicaid or CHIP coverage. The rest of us pay a fortune out of pocket for PT, OT, speech, etc. We max out into the catastrophic level every year since my child got sick 4 years ago. My child is now 6.

I do think it is fair that LISS money can no longer be awarded if you get Medicaid. Give the rest of us the measly $2,000. I got an email from ARC saying that there was no notice given (not good in my opinion) but that people should be able to double dip and still get LISS. I don't think they should.

I don't believe there's any waitlist for HSCSN, the medicaid waiver program in DC. But then you have a schools problem.

They aren't even taking any more people onto the wait list for the autism waiver, the waiting list is years long already. Like 9/10 years.
Despite Maryland touting itself as so progressive, the lack of services for disabled adults and children is outrageous. Maryland is ranked something like 42nd in the nation. And while Maryland claims their schools are number 1 in the country, their special ed has been placed on needs intervention status by the US DOE.
It's gotta be better somewhere else but we are stuck here. They say Wisconsin has good services.

How hard is it to receive a Medicaid Katie Beckett waiver in MD? I was just curious if it is easier for the autism waiver than for my kid who has severe physical disabilities. We were told to get on the waitlist but to expect a 7-8 year wait. Just wondering if we should contemplate moving to DC or VA down the road? Any feedback would be much appreciated. FWIW, we like living in Montgomery County.
