So is he just trying to get out of child support payments or what? I hope you've got a good lawyer you can call, because you're going to need one.

Wow, you picked a real winner, LOL! Going to the pool and giving two different names was a pain? Yet he'd like you to do it everywhere you go with your child? Where's he been for 3 years? Yeah, that's what I thought. Don't change the name!

But if you changed the child's last name, you would be the one saying XYZ....oh and ABC.

He sounds pretty dumb, be glad he was out of the picture for the last three years.

That is ridiculous. I kept my maiden name and thus have a difft name than kids and no one bats an eye. Step parents deal with the same thing. This dude has issues and is using this as an excuse.

11:00 - that's kind of stupid. does the pool care if the kid's "real" last name is on the sign-in sheet?

I don't think you need to do anything.

My daughter has my last name because we discussed it when I was pregnant (but after we broke up) and his concern was that his last name is very distinctive (it is) and his profession is somewhat dangerous. (it is. military intelligence focusing on the middle east, with some deployments.) He said, "well, we could always change it to mine later" and I said, "sure, but you get to do all the paperwork."

It is convenient to have the same last name as my daughter, since I'm generally doing all the admin. But sometimes he gets called Mr. [My last name] and that would bother some people!

You don't need to do anything. Even if he was the world's greatest dad, you don't have to change your son's last name.

Bio-dad is a jerk. Did he give you any compelling reason why you should change your son's name?? You do not have to change it. Stand your ground!

No. You do not have to change his Name.

You do not have to change his name. It would be hard for a previously uninvolved parent to convince a judge to change a pre-schooler's name.

If the order doesn't say to change his name, you don't have to.

Do not change his name! No way. They will absolutely not force you to change it, no legal basis whatsoever, so don't let him pressure you!

Three years later dad wants to come into the picture and tells me to agree to change the last name. He just was ordered
child support and visitation .... My position right now is that as a single mother I'd like to share same last name... everything is established with my last name.... is the a law to this or how is this seen in court. Can I back up my argument/position? I live in Montgomery County.

Thanks for any info or input
