Frozen was bland. It was also clear from its inception that it was going to go straight to Broadway to be a musical. It was designed that way. The songs are overblown and wretched, and there are so many of them in the movie that you dont' feel like you're in a movie.

+1. I just saw it and was so let down. Lame, forgettable music; strange plot; insipid villains; annoying snowman sidekick who was a very poor man's Sebastian/Abu/Balu. The one great thing: the renderings of the ice and the ice castle. That was quite beautiful. Well, and I guess the key life lesson that instant and amazing chemistry with a guy doesn't mean he's a good guy. I would LOVE for DD to learn that from Frozen, instead of the hard way like her mother!

Tangled had plenty of songs! We play them in the car all the time. Frozen was good, but it didn't knock Tangled off the top step in our house.

I think the idea of a princess who has a power activated by her emotions, which she cannot control, is pretty cool. I imagine a lot of kids can identify with that.

I have never seen the movie - we have boys - but I love the Let it Go song. I'm not saying it's good, but it is SO CATCHY!

What is so special about the music?? DH and I watched it (DD is an infant but we were curious what the fuss was about) and found the music dull. On paper I like the idea of it, the messages, etc but the execution left me (ha ha) cold.

We were at a restaurant in Old Town a few days ago, and Let it Go came on. There was a table of two families, with a few little girls and one little boy. The little girls all automatically started singing away, and the little boy sat there with his hands over his ears. I'm with ya, kid.

It's the music, coupled with the right story formula - flawed, 3-dimensional characters, various levels of sophistication, hero tale with a twist - plus the animation is pretty cool.

We don't get it because we are old. LOL.

My five year old son absolutely loves Frozen. He talks about Elsa, Anna, Olaf... He watched two dozens of Disney movies including Cars, Planes, Up, Nemo, Toy Story.... Frozen is his favorite. Who knows why.

I don't get it, either. And every song grates on me--not because they're overplayed (which they are) but because they're just not that well-constructed.
