Love my MIL too and I love seeing these kinds of posts. I see her a few days a week so we spend a lot of time together and I love it. She's just a nice, relaxed person and she's good to my family. She has a lot of friends and there's a reason why--she's just a nice person to be around.

Mine is great too! She is coming to help later this month and I am looking forward to it! She is friendly and helpful and never intrusive or judgmental.

Now on the other hand, I could really do without FIL....

That's great OP! Hope you're on the mend. My MIL is also good to me too even though it's not always an easy interaction.

Great story, OP! Mine is the bomb, too. Totally there for me when I need her and we have a blast together over a cocktail.

But OP, my mother in law was wonderful too. I guess good MILs aren't as interesting to post about? But my MIL was like a wonderful friend. She didn't even annoy me ever and not once did she ever say a mean word to me in the six years I've been married to DH. And so of course she died suddenly, while all the crappy MILs out there seemingly get to live FOREVER.

If I wasn't bedridden I would've tried to go through the laundry and hide the underwear just for privacy's sake. But in the end I didn't care about her seeing our underwear. She did DH's laundry all while growing up, and it's not like she's never seen women's underwear before...

How can you tell she didn't snoop? Not being snarky, I always wonder if people who are alone in my house are snooping.

Mine is great too!! She's way across on the other side of the country, we hardly communicate and so there are no conflicts.

I guess it all depends upon what you want in a MIL.

I would prefer mine just sit down and stay out of my way, rather than doing sweeping, mopping, laundry (why do I want her to see our clothes esp. underwear?), or cleaning out the fridge (horror! to think of what decisions she'd make to keep vs. throw out. . .).

But I am glad that the two of you seem to be a good fit.

I had an injury this week and at the very last-minute notice my MIL flew in from the Midwest to take care of me this weekend. She was so helpful around my house, and she stayed our guest room and didn't snoop around our house when we left to visit a friend, didn't complain about the food we ate/restaurants we went to, and made sure that I rested so I could recover. And not once did she complain about doing my housework (which she insisted she do for me, like sweeping, mopping, laundry, and she cleaned my fridge!) I told her she didn't have to do it all, but she insisted.

I am just really grateful for her! Of course she has her little quirks that I find annoying, but I'm sure I annoyed her at some point too this weekend, as no two people are perfectly compatible.

I am sorry that not everybody has such a great MIL. I do know how it is to have a bad family relationship with a parent, and in reading a lot of the DCUM posts I can identify with a lot of you when it comes to that. I'll probably still get attacked for something I said here, but oh well. My MIL is great.
