Okay thank you. Maybe what I need to do is go to a kitchen and bath place and take my top 5 Houzz pics and say can you replicate this vs buying online at Pottery Barn or Restoration Hardware or other sites.

It depends what you want. If you have something in mind, a certain material or a a certain color, then maybe the cabinet shop you're working with will not carry it or be able to source it. They will however have a variety of options that they can and do work with so you are welcome to choose those options.

Custom vanities are just cabinets with a countertop on it. Go to the kitchen/bath place and design what you want. Drawers, doors, feet, flush to the floor, extra deep counter. Pick the color, finish, material, type of drawer closure, integrated features, etc.

We're also looking for bathroom vanities. One thing that's troubled us is that a lot of the nice sets only have a normal mirror. Not a medicine cabinet. I don't think I've ever lived anywhere without a medicine cabinet, and I can't imagine making do without one! Very frustrating.

Custom vanities aren't crazy expensive. Find a bathroom/kitchen remodeling place to order one.

The person that used to own our house was a contractor, and he seemed to favor Plumbing Parts Plus in Rockville. I don't think they are crazy high end, but still a step up from Home Depot. But I also don't know tons about that stuff.

Same places that do fancy lines of kitchen cabinets. Out of the box isn't going to be that high end.

I know Restoration Hardware and Pottery Barn but where else can I shop online or locally that isn't cheapy? I'm seeing awesome master baths on Houzz with custom vanities by carpenters and I'm wondering if I can get something out of the box better than Home Depot and would love to have more options than just Restoration Hardware and Pottery Barn. But I do want nice quality and high end'ish.
