Employers don't buy insurance by the person - they buy it in bulk so you aren't saving them a lot.

Would he be willing to take the equivalent reduction in salary if circumstances change and you lose your coverage?

My old employer offered a kickback if you took your spouses plan. It was trivial like the others ($1000/year).

I don't know what Obamacare now requires, but I do know people who have negotiate this. Why be "casual" - just ask.

I think it depends a lot on the employer. I work for a large corporation and feel like this doesn't matter in the slightest. For a smaller organization, maybe it does?

Under Obama care, an employer has to provide health care to all. It can not be negotiated away. At least that was what the HR told me on my first day, when I made a joke that they should pay me more because I saved them thousands in insurance.

OP,
What if you lost your job? Divorced? Died? (Sorry.) His staying on your plan is not certain.

My spouse is in the midst of salary negotiations. He's on my employer's health insurance plan. Could he attempt to negotiate a higher salary by saying he'll save the company thousands by not being on their insurance plan?
