I found it more "self-selecting." We would have been very satisfied if our kids had chosen to go to Furman.

+1 for UT Austin. It is a really pretty campus, and it's designated land was carved out before the city built up around it, so you get lots of quad and landscaping on the "40 acres" but then are steps from a the fun part of downtown. Best of both worlds.

University of Richmond. We didn't expect such a beautiful campus! My DD chose not to go there and is headed up to the NE, but we were all pretty impressed with the Richmond campus.

St. Mary's College of Maryland. Charming little campus on the beautiful St. Mary's River.

College of charleston was pretty stunning when we visited. Tucked right into that beautiful city.

Lehigh has a beautiful and varied range of architectural styles -- surprising to me as people justifiably laud the school for its engineering and business programs, but rarely mention the campus.

There was a lengthy thread on most beautiful campuses a few months back:

i really like columbia's - in an urban environment yet partially 'walled off' to give a campus-like feel inside unlike other urban schools.

There is a topic about bad campuses already but has anyone been surprised by any particularly nice ones lately?
