I'm not so sure why everyone is hating on the bob. I think it's a classic look and NOT a mom look at all. I think it's much worse to see someone much older with very long hair trying to look young and hip when a shorter cut would freshen their face and make them look younger. I saw a woman today who had to be at least 70 with hair down to her her waist, getting it dyed jet black (eyebrows to match). Then arguing with her stylist that all of her grey's were not covered - in her hair AND eyebrows! If she would have lopped about a foot off of that mane of hers and trimmed those eyebrows, rather than dyeing them, she could have taken 20 years off of her appearance. Maybe an attitude adjustment would have helped too!

OP here - i like the long bob idea. I have a tound face and straight thin hair that looks messy as it gets long (not in a good way) and choppy when too layered (also not in a good way). I wore long layers with side-swept bangs for most of my twenties, so it doesnt feel put together or sophisticated to me. Perhaps i can find a grown up version of this look.

If its long and layered how is it a bob?

OP, Kate Gosselin never had a bob. I don't even know how she ever got her hair to look like it did or what you would even ask a hair stylist to do, but it looked like crap.

This is the style I've finally gravitated towards. But with some semi-significant layers (perhaps 2" difference at the widest divergence) so I can have a bit of tousling/movement (when not at work!)

My 50 year old neighbor has okay hair, but her highlights are terrible. She has very dark hair with very bleached high lights. It's a look I only associated with teenagers before who highlighted their own hair.

Try looking on pinterest. Search for "long layered bob" or medium layered bob. You'll get many ideas. There are 1000 variations on this cut, and done right, it's gorgeous.

Honestly, I have a simple long bob. Longer than a mom bob, straight across with very slight (1/2") layering so I don't look like a mushroom when it's humid. It fits in a ponytail, it looks great when I do curl-waves with a flat-iron and it grows out well so if I forget to make an appointment I don't look like hell.

If you can rock long straight hair, then I think you should do it. Just not too long. Shoulder length with long layers, maybe?
