I agree it is ridiculous. We had 60 at a FCPS last year. I believe the medals go to everyone with a 4.0 or better. So now valedictorian and salutatorian means nothing

They used to have 20 valedictorians at the high schools here. I didn't see anything wrong with it. They all got the maximum GPA.

IME, larger HS don't do it for this reason. There are several students at the top separated by very little GPA scores. You then get students taking as many AP classes as possible to get the extra GPA bump and end up with even more stressed out kids.

The ones with the absolute highest GPA at their school should be recognized. If there are 90 with the same GPA so be it. However, this business of giving it to every kid over a 4.0 is ridiculous.

There sort of are...but no one person is singled-out because 30 kids might have the same 4.+ GPA. So how would you distinguish that?

At our school there were 90 valedictorians. Why doesn't the top dog get his/her due? How is this helpful?
