I still wonder why Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie haven't tied the knot after being together almost ten yrs. and having six children together. Like...They seem so much in love and their relationship has a lot of stability and fortitude.

They always give the media different excuses when asked when and why they aren't married yet.

They say they won't marry until "everyone else" has the legal right to marry, meaning same-sex couples. Well, now same-sex couples can marry. Then they claim their kids are pressuring them to marry, so why not now??

I know they both have been previously wed before so I wonder if either a). They are secretly married already or b). It is about money.

I suppose celebrities say they're "engaged" for the same reason ordinary long-term couples do. It's shorthand for "I don't feel a need to get legally married and am sick of trying to explain it to you marriage lovers."

I think sometimes "engaged" is shorthand for "we are obviously more serious than just dating and want to recognize that." But a lot of people are happy the way they are and don't need the wedding right away. (especially if they've already had kids together, or already feel married because of challenges they have faced together.)

I'd rather see someone engaged for 10 years than see someone compulsively getting engaged, married and divorced repeatedly in a short time.

I think engaged is used very loosely by way too many people. I know a number of women who say they are engaged to stifle some nosy parker questions about cohabitation or baby-making with a man who can't seem to find his way to matrimony. For some, it's become a quasi-acceptable long-term status midway between dating and marriage.
The other celeb trend though is the very short dating period before engagement. I think that has its own problems.

I wonder if Brangelina will make it down the aisle. I don't see the point of an engagement when you already have a dozen kids together. Just go to the courthouse and get it done.

Super wealthy couples outside of entertainment seem to manage to workup a prenup in much less time.

I do think of Jennifer Hudson and wonder what the holdup is at this point.

Many of them with kids, etc. Why not either say "we don't want to get married" or just get married? What's the point of saying you're engaged at all? Pet peeve.
