There's also a Juniors Team at Capital Rowing Club which draws kids from schools without rowing programs. A lot of the kids go to Walls. I don't know how strong it is but it is an option if you end up at a school without a rowing program.

My kid (girl) and several others were recruited from multiple high schools in the area from their summer rowing progam (TBC) Thompson Boat Club in Georgetown. It has fall and summer rowing for a really affordable price. So, try that. Good luck!

Wilson crew offers a "learn to row" program in the fall for newcomers, including 8th graders. I believe they make announcements at Deal but the crew program at Wilson is parent run (vs a DCPS program) and any DC student can participate. so your child does not have to attend Wilson.

Does Hardy participate in this program?

Gonzaga and St Albans for boys far and away the strongest, and an 8th grader could start at Thompson's summer program. Gonzaga only a high school and St Albans I don't think has crew for younger than 9th graders.

Whitman has a very strong rowing club. A couple of kids seem to get recruited to top schools each year so it seems to turn out some talent.

Wilson High School has an excellent rowing program for boys and girls. Great experience for my kid, a few boats made it to Nationals this year. A boys' boat got bronze. Awesome kids and parents, very qualified, competent coaches.

Does anyone know which schools in the area both private and public have strong rowing programs?
