I have a similar question. On move in day there's a series of events for parents. I don't really want to go. Would it be bad form to just drop her off (help her unpack) and leave? Its only one day of events for parents but I'd rather hit the road.

How about at law school orientation? A classmate brought his mom to the orientation. Really cute!

+1 I used to work in college admin. You should not be there. You did a great job raising a young adult. They will make it or break it, but they need to do it on their own. They are learning from the experience itself.

Our school has a separate orientation for the kids and the parents. The parents are not invited to go to the students orientation.

Would be better if your kid goes to an earlier orientation - with you. And, uh, it's not about your convenience.

Did go to orientation. 8 hours away, no shuttle. Did some sightseeing while son went to orientation, met back up for dinner. Do whatever your kid is comfortable with.

There are activities for the parents during orientation. I will take my chance and just wait until August for those parent/family events. Should have included this in the original post.

Parents should NOT go to college orientation, even if they are paying the bill. Your little baby is now an adult. Now let them act like it.

Are you attending college orientation sessions over the summer and going back for move-in? We (parents) don't think it's necessary to attend orientation within 60 days of move-in. IMO, it's time to let DD fly on her own, take shuttle to campus and select her classes. Looking forward to move-in. What say you?
