Because birth control is unpleasant and I'd rather take my extremely low chances of having another kid versus any kind of contraceptive.

Why aren't you smart enough to understand that we all have our reasons, OP?

I don't ovulate and DH had a vasectomy. Our kids were conceived via AI. If one showed up naturally, we'd be thrilled. I'm 42 and DH is 46.

My grandmother got pregnant at 40 and 46. Natural obviously. I'm 41 and on BC.

I'm 48 and my tubes are tied so not an issue for me - thank goodness. But at my age I would think that the odds of me becoming pregnant are pretty slim compared to the odds of me suffering some sort of ill effect from hormonal BC or even an IUD. I suppose there's always condoms but....I'm 48.

At any rate, I can see why women of a certain age just plain forgo BC. I would NOT do that in my early or even mid 40's. But 48....what are the odds? I mean really?

When you are settled, in a stable marriage and financially sound, it is not exactly a tragedy if you accidentally get pregnant in your 40s.

Plus the odds are very low, vs when you are in your fertile teens.

Not such a huge gamble.

I just read somewhere that way more people THINK they are infertile (from age, disease, past sheer good luck with US) than actually are.

I guess that a lot of women hear about the fertility struggles of the over 40s TTC and figure it's all barren ground at that age.

i got a tubal after last DC so that I wouldn't have to deal with BC in my 40s. Love it.

It took years, treatments, supplements and months of carefully timed intercourse to get my two miracles. I'm almost 46 now, still nursing my 20 month old, and not having sex all that often. If I ended up pregnant again through all that, we'd welcome whatever child came.

As another poster in another thread said: Why don't you use BC in your 40s if you don't want to be pregnant?

I had my planned child at age 40, then used the mini pill while breastfeeding and the regular pill after that until I was 45. Then used a Mirena til 49, and then it was right into menopause.

How difficult is it to be responsible? If you could do it when you were 18, why not now?
