My SIL has over 600. She adds people if she recognizes their name, or if they are friends with friends of hers.

My brother will add anyone with the same last name. A couple of times now he's asked me if I know them because he can't figure out who they are... yet he adds them.

So from my own experience, it means nothing.

Given that he intended it to make it easier to hook up with people I don't think 99% of us are using it the way he intended.

Means nothing. Facebook came out when I was a freshman in college and I have a ridiculous number of Facebook friends from high school and college that I never talk to anymore. I rarely friend anyone these days. I think the only reason I do is because I need to message them, invite them to an event on FB (a lot of our friends use this feature) or send them a picture and I don't have their contact info. My friend and I were laughing the other day that we've been having lunch every week for the past 6 months and it never even occurre to is to "friend" each other on Facebook.

I do have a friend (IRL) who friends just about anyone she meets. It seems a little pathetic.

Two hundred isn't that many. I have a little over 500, and they're all people that I know IRL. Most of them are either family or former classmates/ coworkers.

I don't accept friend requests from strangers.

Means you have a big family or school was large. I do wonder about the people with 2k and up though

Yes, it means you are so totally cool and totally popular.

I have 250. Means pretty much nothing other than I went to 2 different high schools and a large state school. I'm happy to add people and see what they're up to every once in a while. I hope I'm liked and respected by those people, but I don't think I have 250 BFFs. The vast majority are casual acquaintances and I treat FB as such. I don't use FB as an online diary of what's going on in my life, so it's not a big deal.

I think it's just a matter of how you use fb. For a long time I would only friend people I was actually friends with (no family members, no co-workers, no internet-only friends) and I was below 100 friends. I've changed careers now and loosened up on who I will friend/accept, but I'm no more or less popular than I was before.

It means nothing. I have over 900 friends on Facebook. I am 26 and still have friends from high school, in college everyone friended each other, etc. I want to delete a lot of them but have not really cared enough to spend the time doing it.

Every so often I get friend requests from people I have not seen or spoken to since middle school. It's ridiculous. I deny those.

I have 200+ friends on FB. It means nothing. For the most part, if I ran into one of these "friends" on the street, I wouldn't recognize them. You know how friends come and go....well, FB just keeps track of them. Sometimes you are friends with some one during a class, during a certain part of your life, while you were interested in an activity and then you move--they're more like friends for the moment rather than friends for life.

The only thing it means is that they have low security standards for access to their information in FB. It has nothing to do with their character.

Means nothing. Some people really could have lots of true friends. Others could be the type who add anyone and everyone on FB from old coworkers to every member of their church. You really don't know just by looking at the number of friends.
