I've often thought of this - what happens when your interview for the first position didn't go so well?

apply for sure but In my experience at the places that that has happened to me, they might think "hmm, the person really wanted the higher level job, will he/she REALLY be happy/content with this lower level job even if they have qualifications or especially if they are over-qualified on paper".

people say dating is hard - no way, finding a great job is a million times harder than finding fun people to date.

Definitely apply. I had a friend apply to my organization. They loved her but thought she wasn't the right fit for our section because of her background but would be a great fit for a different section. Go for it! You have nothing to lose but the time it takes.

Dear Ms. Smith,
Thank you for meeting with me about the X position at your organization. I understand that position has been filled. I am interested in being considered for the Y position currently advertised and would appreciate feedback on my interview.

Apply. I was contracting at an office, didn't get the first job I applied for, got the second.

It depends if you can find out why you did not get the job. There is an organization that I applied to four or five times...I had been non-offered each time. A new posting on USAJOBS came out, and I contacted someone I knew...turns out each time I made the #2 or #3 position....but #1 always accepted. I applied, and was offered the position. I did not accept it, because it was advertised as a 13/14, but they offered me 13 step 1, which was at 1/2 my current salary.

Apply. You don't know why they didn't hire you. It may turn out that you are a better fit for this position or they may not hire you again. Since you cannot predict the future unless you're clairvoyant, go for it.

No advice but sorry you didn't get the job.

I'd contact whoever you had the best relationship with of the people you met and ask their thoughts.

I interviewed with four people at an organization of about 60 people. I didn't get the job I applied for. They have another (more entry level) position I'm thinking I would consider as I'm a SAHM looking to (at this point) get ANY job. Beggars can't be choosers, right?

Do I apply again to this organization for that other position or just move on?
