I am lactose intolerant, but its pretty specific. If I eat high fat/high sugar dairy I get crazy sick (it started out as cramps, and has progressed to feeling like I'm being stabbed in the stomach while I poop my life away). It took about a year of stomach unease, to stomach cramps to get to the "please kill me so I can stop this painful poop spasms".

So, if I eat ice cream I have to take a lactose pill... or else. I can drink milk without any problems. I can eat cheese (not excessively) without problems. But, ice cream or cream soups are too much.

I have both lactose and gluten intolerances, and they present differently. Lactose makes me bloated, gassy (both ends), and gives me diarrhea, which is a different color than a normal BM (more yellow).

My husband is lactose intolerant. If he eats dairy, he has to make a run for the bathroom pretty quickly, sometimes again in the middle of the night.

Just a +1 on the indigestion without it being an intolerance. Ice cream and milk make me bloated, feel like I'm going to throw up, followed by bad cramping and gas hours later. I can eat cheese, yogurt, and other dairy products just fine

You can get indigestion pretty bad and not be "intolerant" as a diagnosis. So my DD (baby) got cramps, constipation, threw up from dairy products (right away) until she was 2.

OP,

My mom had this and thought it was dairy related. It was actually celiac disease which can look like a bad reaction to dairy. Please keep eating wheat/gluten and get the blood test for celiac. This is so you can get an accurate result. Your GP can do it or you can go to an allergist. (It's actually an autoimmune disease.)

I realized my dd was lactose intolerant when after eating ice cream for dessert, she would wake up crying with an upset stomach. Once she burped or farted, she would stop crying. So upset stomach and gas, burping/farting were her symptoms. Now she has lactose free ice cream, and she is fine.

If you're lactose intolerance, can you share what your symptoms are? I know, kind of TMI...

I wonder if I'm LI. I'm Asian, so have that going for me, and at times after I eat dairy, I get an upset stomach almost immediately. Other times, nothing. I also bloat and have bad gas (the burping kind).
