Go to Aruba. Very little rain so little chance of a hurricane hitting. Great snorkleing and scuba. Lots of beachfront hotels and gambling as well.

Before baby I always traveled in September or October to get the best deals. We never once had a problem (but we got close once). I think it is worth taking the risk. Enjoy your trip!

My anniversary is in late September. I've never had any issues vacationing in the Caribbean.

You could try an island further south as hurricanes rarely hit there. Aruba and Curacao, for example, are considered outside of the hurricane belt. That's not to say they won't be affected but they rarely get hurricanes.

Any recs? DH doesn't golf, but isn't big on spending hours just laying around in the sun, either. In the Carribean, he can snorkel, kayak, etc....

When I did my baby moon we put off buying the tickets. A HUGE hurricane hit and we moved it to Hawaii. So just either get trip insurance or book late.

OP here. Thanks. Not really "once in a lifetime," but it is a babymoon, so it'll be the last relaxing vacation for awhile.

I'm due in January, so I don't want to go much later than Sept.

We went over Labor Day week last year - the first half was amazing (hot and humid, but sunny and breezy), the second half we got hit with a tropical storm and were inside all day. Most trip insurance policies won't cover you unless it is a named storm that cancels flights, so be sure to look carefully at the policy before you buy. Are you okay with rain? If yes, go for it. Many resorts have fantastic deals that time of year.

I've done the USVI in September several times. We never had a hurricane but keep in mind that September can be a very rainy month even in the absence of hurricanes or tropical storms. I'm pretty sure it's also the hottest, most humid month of the year down there.

If you go, I'd consider getting trip insurance.

I wouldn't call it stupid, but you are taking a risk with the weather. We've done Jamaica in Sept. and had no issues. And one year we did a cruise in Sept and were affected by a hurricane.

Just think on what you'd do if bad weather hit during your trip. Would you get upset that it ruined your plans and activities? Or would you be OK just chilling in your room? Is this a once-in-a-lifetime trip that you're sinking a lot of money into?

Has anyone taken this risk? I'm thinking St. Thomas, leaving Sept. 5 or 6.
