Your kids aren't that gifted and talented, OP. I mean, I know you think they are -- and you will be surrounded by people who think the same -- but they're just not. If you have some sort of phenom on your hands, you wouldn't be looking at public, anyway.

It's so hard to accurately identify GT kids in K and 1st that most systems don't even try.

Yes I am sure. I have specifically asked and was told no pullouts until third grade. My school only has a part time AAP teacher.

Oops, I see that the discussion was of pull outs, not Pull-Ups.

Aren't K and first graders a little old for Pull-Ups? I thought the kids had to be potty trained by K.

Prince William County has a program for kids in K-3 who have been identified as potentially gifted. Kids get screened for the actual gifted program in 3rd grade.

For early elementary like K, 1st, and 2nd, I would do private if you really want steady and consistent above and beyond instruction. Plus, you will get smaller class sizes and more project based learning. Getting pulled out once a week for an hour or two is not that much in public.

Are you thinking of the TPES magnet? It's for grades 1 and 2.

For my kid it started in first.

I don't know if they do them in kindergarten.

After sending three kids through kindergarten, including one highly gifted child, am not sure they are necessary then.

I say this as a big proponent of elementary school gifted education.

MoCo has a very limited program for second and third I think. Pretty tough to get into though and not advertised at all.

You may have to do private school for that. I know MoCo doesn't start till 4th.

Flexible about location, since we're willing to be in MD, DC, or VA. Looking for the best G&T program (yes, I do have gin and tonics on the brain today) possibilities at the K and 1st grade level. I know about programs in MoCo and Fairfax for older grades, but we're curious about options at the entry-level stages of elementary.
