You should contact a lawyer.
This is not a debt anymore. It is a judgment. OP, you had your day in court and you lost. You can no longer say that the car was illegally repossessed. It was not and you owe the judgment unless you appeal and win. As to appeals, I have never seen a deadline longer than 30 days after judgment was entered. If you still have time, you can file whatever appeals are allowable by law. If you are beyond the deadline, the judgment is final and you are on the hook.
As to how long it is enforceable, that is a matter of state laws. But, judgments can be renewed indefinitely. Judgments can be satisfied through garnishment of wages, garnishment of bank accounts, garnishment of property, etc.
Your best bet is to see if you can settle. If you do, be sure you file the proper paperwork with the court to show that the judgment has been satisfied.

I did not know that provisions such as the payment deferment needed to be done in writing though. I will claim responsibility for that. On the phone the lady suggesting it said they were happy to do it and at the end of the conversation she said it was taken care of. I just don't have $5000 lump sum to pay this off. I just had the judgment ruling passed recently. Thanks for your help though. I will call a debt help agency asap.
Careful with that. A lot of them are complete scam ripoffs.
