Burke is forced into some transportation arrangements by an agreement with the immediate neighborhood.
There is a zone into which you may not drop off or pick up a child, unless you register as a carpool. Most families who do not carpool use one of several options: drop off at a corner in the allowed zone (a block or so away), or drop off for the Burke shuttle at Pierce Mill, near the school. Several, I think, shuttle runs come through in the morning from there to the school.
After 8:30 am and after school, anyone can drive through the pick up line.
When my son was in sixth grade, for a few months, I'd park in the "allowed" zone and walk him to the school building. When I and he became confident, I began to drop him at the corner of Connecticut and Van Ness. This has worked just fine for a number of years now. He's in high school.
