It's like a Sherlock Holmes meets CSI and MacGyver set in the Victorian era. The police detective Murdoch applies new techniques of crime solving like taking finger prints and invents a scientific gizmo every episode. The sprinkle in historical figures like Arthur Conan Doyle, Tesla. They pay close attention to details and language of the day, and all the technology is relevant to scientific discoveries of the day. Of course, they take creative license with everything he invents.
It's on Amazon Prime, so you could probably watch a couple episodes and see if he'd like it. I was slow to warm up to season 1 but I ended getting hooked at watching all the episodes available on Prime.

What about the History Channel Vikings series? Or might he have seen that already?
Maybe some Masterpiece Theatre? He might not usually do fiction, but I bet there are series that could suck him in! The BBC Sherlock was good.

He's 78 and in good shape and enjoys books and TV. I'd like to avoid anything that would be considered liberal or conservative. He enjoys history and documentaries and would like a good drama as well. Thanks!
