I am a RGMS parent and we finally heard some form of official update at a meeting last Wednesday. The GWES principal attended too. There will be a major traffic nightmare on the first day of school, if a viable plan is not developed. The lot that parents used to park in will no longer be available. The idea of children (1000+) and parents trying to maneuver the many cars and buses with no place to park will pose a major safety issue.

Appreciate the info. I understand that the RGMS parents were totally unaware until they heard it through the grapevine. I guess "the powers that be" thought that it was not important to notify the hosting school.

13:13 again . There's at least 1 other school slotted for renovation that also needs temp location. I don't know how many total right now in the district. Maybe they have to calculate available locations and distance to transport kids from each geographic area. size of student pop compared to available rooms, etc. Each school with a temporary relocation has parent info meetings. I'm not A GA parent, so I don't know when your meetings were held .

There were 2 or 3 community meetings about this that GA parents were invited to . I don't know the dates of the meetings though.

I don't know about the exact process or timing for GA Woods, but I do know many sites are considered before a decision is made... and really, how many quality empty schools are sitting around waiting to be used while one school gets a total reno. The schools not scheduled for reno will have more to complain about than the parents in the school that are up for renovation.

I agree, the schools who are not being renovated would have much to complain about too. My issue mostly starts with the lack of communication. I am sure that it was known before last month that GWES was up for renovation. As you state, there are not alot of empty schools available. So, I am sure PGCPS must have known that RGMS would be the home for GWES. It seems strange that this info leaked out a few weeks before the end of the school year. So, when will GWES parents be notified? I heard there might have been a letter sent by the GWES principal. Families may have to make major adjustments to drop off or pick up their children from a location that is much further away for some.

Wow. I had heard something about this, but can't remember where. FWIW, my child went to GWES (has since matriculated to middle), and the bus made all the difference. It was a God-awful slog for my kid, but we decided it was worth it since it got him there and back. Unless there is another buzz about cutting buses to specialty programs, I wouldn't panic yet.

Wow. I am going to have my daughter test for magnet program coming up february but this is good to know since this would be her magnet school.
