Amazon lets you download to play in their player. But, that doesn't mean much in the scheme of things. It just means you don't have to have the internet to play it.

So if you buy it from Amazon, can you download it or just stream it? I thought you could only stream, as it stays in the cloud, but it sounds like PPs are downloading it to play when they don't have an internet connection.

We don't even have a DVD player anymore. Ours was from 2001 and is not compatible with our two tvs, which are from 2012 and 2014.

We were going to buy a new DVD player but haven't had a need to yet since we can download pretty much anything we want directly onto the tv. Really, though, the only things we've bought have been kids' movies and one or two that DH really wanted.

Kids can be hard on DVDs. I've been buying the version where you get a blu-Ray, a regular DVD, and the digital copy for one price.

My friends bought Frozen on FIOS. This because they were gonna watch it 10,000 times. It's something you know that you're buying and you don't really own it. But, if you're gonna watch it on the TV over and over (and we don't have a DVD player)...and you're buying one movie you know you'll still have to rebuy, it could be worth it.

Good lord OP, how old are you? Of course I do and so do all my friends. I'm over 30 btw.

I don't do it a lot, but I do for kids stuff. This way I can show it to him on the computer, on the main tv via AppleTV, on the iPad, on my phone, etc.

All the time. Buy it once - watch anywhere - ipad, roku, smart tv. Download it.

For convenience. You can just buy it from your TV. No waiting or going to the store. There is no need to store DVDs. You have everything on the screen.

The thing with the cloud is you have to have an internet connection. If I download it to the ipad then the kids can watch it in the car or where ever we might be.
