13 was an absolutely awful year for us. OMG, the rage. I still have nightmares. 14 and 15 were a breeze. I think the social scene of HS was much easier than MS, which took away a lot of her anger plus I think it just gave her more maturity. 16 (junior year) was a little more difficult, I think due to the increased homework level with all the AP classes and increased extracurricular demands and then subsequent lack of sleep is probably what did her. Junior year is just stressful, I think. We will see what 17 has in store.

DD19: 15 was very rough, and senior year of high school was rough

DS22: 14/15 he went VERY quiet - didn't ever want to talk, mumbled answers, was annoyed by our existence, very little eye contact.

Ha! Our sons were both angels until 8th-grade, then complete PITA until just before they left for college; now both are greaty guys whom we love to have around whenever their schedules permit. DD, OTOH, was hell-on-wheels until age 3, then a sweetie until around age 13 when she was slightly pissy for about a year-18 mos., then back to delightful. We'll really miss her when she goes to college next year. Thinking about getting another dog.

Actually, my DS1 was the absolute worst from age 10-13. Things got better through 8th grade and his high school years have been a breeze so far. He's 16.5 now.

13-14 for my teen DD, then again at 17. Teen DS was at 15 (sophomore year). Super easy since then.

Ds is 14. He is starting to swear in front of me. He also speaks disrespectfully. Saying things like "what do you want?" Using the word hell.

He has adhd also, and the school called about his behavior. Class clown type issues.

At least with my two girls, by far the worst was 13-14 or so, by 15 and older they started to have some degree of rational thinking and interest in actually discussing situations with us as parents, as opposed to pouting and slamming doors. Plus the social stuff just seemed to get much better by high school as compared to middle school, a "bigger pond", more social groups and less clear hierarchies, with lots more positive as compared to negative reinforcement from friends.
