This. You live in VA. You owe money to VA. Not DC.

All the reciprocity means is that you don't have to pay taxes in both DC and VA, if say, you work in VA but live in DC.

They fucked up. Keep in mind they are probably still fucking up your paychecks now.

Hint: look at your paychecks more than once per Haley's comet

Your employer fucked up. Make them change it now.

You have to pay virginia taxes, and also file a refund request with dc to get your money back.

AFAIK, you can't have your DC withholdings credited to VA. What reciprocity means, is that even though you work in DC, because you are a VA resident, DC will not require that your employer withhold DC taxes (in fact, ideally, your employer would withhold VA taxes).

If in fact your employer did withhold DC taxes, you need to file a nonresident return to get refund from DC, and then file your VA return and pay those taxes.

I am trying to do our 2013 taxes using Turbo Tax.

I just realized that for my employment last year (which is in DC), my employer deducted DC taxes and did not deduct or pay Virginia taxes, although I lived in Virginia the entire year (and did not live in DC).

When I asked him about it, the PayChex people told him that this would not be a big deal "because DC and Virginia have reciprocity."

However, Turbo Tax is not recognizing that I paid DC taxes and says we owe Virginia money.

Can anyone give me any information about what I should do here? How do I get the money back from DC, or have it credited to Virginia?

Thank you.
