I'd look at pics from previous year's graduations, or ask parents with older kids (particularly daughters) who have already graduated.

At DD's private school the 6th grade girls generally wear white dresses for graduation. Knee-length, mostly sleeveless. I would guess that they are all wearing flats or sandals. Something they would wear to a nice restaurant for dinner.

For our FCPS 6th grade graduation, the girls were wearing anything from casual to dressy, but not over the bridge into homecoming/prom dress territory.

Yeah, it really depends on the school...public school that is simply a promotion onto middle school? Or private school where kids will be heading off to many many different middle schools?

My dd graduates from 5th grade tomorrow. She got a very casual dress -it could be worn with converse and a jeans jacket or ballet flats and a sweater. She's a tomboy through to the core with her clothes, so there was no way she'd get any sort of fancy dress.

I'm a little surprised but apparently the girls get dressed up for 6th grade graduation. Any ideas for what type of dress is appropriate? Any stores you recommend? My DD doesn't wear dresses unless required usually so we don't have a go-to place.
