just wanted to say, napfa.org is a good resource for finding one. I don't have one, but I would guess the initial consultation is free.

I've read here (and other places) that a fee-based adviser is the way to go. DH and I have retirement accounts through work, a 529 for DC and a 6 month emergency fund. We are looking to have someone look at what we're currently doing and make recommendations on what we can improve. We'd like to build an addition in the next five years or so and hope to increase our savings towards that goal. I have several questions for those who have a fee-based adviser:

1. Recommend your financial adviser-- NoVA location preferred
2. How much is the fee?
3. How often do you meet with your adviser?
