What is it about this area that can't create a great place to hang out and where your kids can have fun too? When we went to San Diego- we went to this laid back neighborhood style restaurant/bar- young people, families- all together enjoying happy hour. There was a play area in the patio- next to tables - with a gate that was easy to open but "closed in" the kids. The play area was a wood ship so not this huge tacky plastic thing.

Here's another place we went to in Marco Island- the kids still talk about this- this huge play area with water- right next to tables- very good food too.

Hilton Head has some fantastic kid friendly places- skull creek (next to water- so many free kids toys and scavenge hunts, mellow mushroom, another place on the beach so the kids looked for shells- tables were on the beach- kids congregated to play while we ordered/waited for meal)..

Here.. not so much..

(my kids are ages 6 and 8 now- they still appreciate a kid friendly restaurant that is not McDs with a play area- uck).

The owners of jakes are friends with the people who run our Montessori school. I will say, the food could use a little something but we have found it useful when my husband and I need to hash something out over lunch, like schedules, or when we need to chat with the older one (who is too old and cool to go to the playroom). Listen, you can't have 5 star dining, Mac and cheese and a babysitter. We appreciate that they try and know their audience!

Seva Cafe in Del Ray

We sometimes go to LosTios in Del Ray. There is a playground right across the street. But have to wait until we are finished eating to walk over, so might not be what you are looking for.

We live right aroundthe corner but the one time i was there I was very unimpressed. Food is lousy and I just didnt feel comfortable leaving my kidsin a room out of sight with a random guy. i may be too uptight, but the guy seemed more like the waiter who wasnt busy that morning than someone with some childcare experience like you'd see at the gym or whatever.

be forewarned its in the basement and there are video games, etc, too. It seemed fine for somewhat older kids but not for my 1 and 3 year old who are not into board games, etc yet.

Joes Crab Shack in Fair Oaks has a playground inside.

Not sure if they do brunch though.

Chick-fil-A in Reston has an interior playground.

Ooh, great question. I would love to know too. Don Julio's in Ballston has a courtyard area next to the outdoor dining, but that's all I can come up with. I'll be staying tuned to this thread...
