Ugh. Don't want to hear more extraneous noises.

I'm an employee there and also undergoing IVF and just had a miscarriage before Mother's Day. The chime is really hurtful. I get that I'm sensitive right now, though. But it really is too much. They took a vote on it and apparently 87% voted for it. A coworker told me it cost $80,000 to install. I'm going to call someone tomorrow about my concerns but I doubt they'll stop if it cost so much to install.

A well-intentioned, terrible idea. I would have completely lost it had I heard it chime while checking in for my D&C (miscarriage). Awful.

Sounds like they want to pat themselves on the back. The birth of my child is between me, my family and my medical team. I do not need an announcement in the lobby. I hope the other new mothers can't hear it in their hospital rooms cause they need all the sleep they can get.

I don't agree with it. That is pretty inconsiderate and who wants to hear a chime if you are resting too.

Yikes, bad move. Especially if they house a IF clinic.

That's awful. Hospitals should be a safe place, not a place that makes you feel bad for your medical condition. There's not "I don't have cancer" bell that rings out for all the oncology patients to hear. How insensitive.

I also heard the baby chime today and saw the excitement in the staff and it really upset me,and I thought I had a thick skin by now. I get the point that life is happening even around so much sadness in a hospital but they miss they don't care that many people are suffering when they hear of a baby or birth..it's so disrespectful for those that have lost babies at any point. They obviously aren't even thinking about infertility. Though they have a partnership with SG!

It's also a violation of privacy to the person who just gave birth!

The baby chime seems obnoxious. I'm not normally super sensitive but that would bug me.

I'm with you. Write to SG and Sibley explaining what you just said- that after infertility and miscarriages these open celebrations are too much. If you're up for it, call the office managers.

I feel like that's something that was created with only the best intentions, but .... I don't know. I have mixed feelings about it. I'm thinking also of those mothers that perhaps deliver, but their babies go into the NICU and pass, etc.

SG has an office at Sibley. Today Sibley rolled out their "baby chime" that rings overhead after every live birth. I sat there in the lobby as people celebrated and cheered and felt so isolated and sad. Infertility, miscarriage, it's so horrible and the no escaping it. Not event at the fertility clinic. What are your thoughts on a baby chime?
