Many people live out their whole lives with gallstones and are just fine. I would get a second opinion.

I had my gall bladder removed. It was the best thing that I could have done. I no longer am in pain like I was once.

I have heard horror stories about people having digestive issues after having their gallbladder removed. No way would I undergo the surgery unless and until I had gallbladder pain.

Do it. I didn't know I had stones and ended up in the ER with acute pancreatitis as a result of the stones. The pain was insane. I was in the ER waiting room on my hands and knees screaming and wailing. I almost died. I was hospitalized for a week on a drip... they wouldn't give me any food or even water. They just swabbed my mouth out with a wet cloth. When they finally could take it out, I was so glad. Trust me. You NEVER want to feel that kind of pain that can result from the stones. Much better to take it out on your own terms.

I discovered that my gall bladder was full of stones while having an ultrasound for another problem. I haven't had any problems or noticed any issues having the stones. At my last physical, my internist asked me if I was interested in getting it removed just to be on the safe side in case I developed problems later - some of which she said could be life threatening (which I later read about). I also read that many people can live with galls stones and never have any issues at all.

I'm just wondering if anyone has elected to have their gall bladder removed and if they felt the surgery was worth the peace of mind of not having the potential for major health issues down the road.
