Our metal roof is original to our 1900 house. They last forever.

A metal roof can last over 100 years. The house I grew up in was built in the 1890's. The roof has never been replaced in all those years.

Slate is even worse than metal roof, that shit is terrible.

Metal roof suck and an asphalt roof costs no more than 7 to 10k. I am very familiar with metal roofs , they are installed as a last resort.

I really like them. It was about 4 times the cost of shingles and we couldn't find anyone who really specialized in it or I would have gotten one.

My parents have one on their house and are replacing it for the first time in at least 30 years. I never noticed it being any noisier than other roof types.

I had a metal roof on my 1900 row house. I am not sure if it was orginal - but I was told they last forever. Loved it!

I would love a metal roof but a) it's not worth it in our crappy little townhouse b) HOA forbids it and c) I couldn't afford it anyway. I dimly remember reading that they're far more environmentally friendly and way longer lasting. They can be very well insulated so they aren't loud.

The only ones I have seen and hated are the bright red ones; there are a few in the area and they reflect so much red light back onto the house it looks like it's bleeding.

I love them. Ours is a flat roof rowhouse so you can't see the roof, but I like it. And it is so sturdy.

Many people love the way they sound in rain.

I think they are AWFUL. Yet, I was surprised to see a listing of an otherwise VERY nice house, great location, good price with a metal roof (whole house). And on the listing it is mentioned like if it is supposed to be a good thing "over 30k in metal roof" (or something along those lines).

So, is it actually something people look for?

Also, if we were to buy a house like this and want to change to "regular" roof, are we looking at something 30k+?
