How long have you been dating?

I've fallen for you is pretty clear to me. He isn't ready to say I love you but wants you to know he is smitten.

It all depends on the person saying it. I used to say I adore you to a BF who said I love you. For me adore was a way of avoiding using love word but he thought it was a notch above love. We were both happy

Ive fallen for you suggests a lust/infatuation component

I wouldn't have slept with someone that didn't tell me they loved me. Also normally boyfriends and girlfriends say they love each other before they achieve that status.

That said, my DH took 6 months to say it. Guess he had to wait a long while for sex! hah

I think he is the love of my life and don't want to screw it up, so I need to know how to interpret...thanks!

How did you two agree to be BF and GF?

To me, adore is so much stronger than love.

Text messages are not necessarily true reflections of a persons instinctive thoughts.

If I were you I would hold off on jumping to conclusions about his feelings or assigning him the status of Prince Charming because of a text.

Face-to-face communication and human interaction are still the most telling/accurate indicators of how someone feels about you.

Facial expressions and vocal inflection are still the only ways to truly read emotion.

I think it's definitely a precursor to "I love you." I said it when I wasn't quite ready to profess love but the feelings were there.

+1, although I don't know about "shitty". I'd go more with "immature" or "chickenshit"

It's a shitty way of saying "I love you" when he can't man up and say the real thing.

I'm trying not to overanalyze, but I am definitely in love with him so its hard!!

This.

"I've fallen for you" sounds both pseudo-Victorian and vaguely resentful. "You're nothing but a common shopgirl from Spitfields, Emily, but I've fallen for you. I'll put you up in a 33k pounds a year flat so I can have my way with you in between siring legitimate children and serving as an expert witness in this new field of medicine started by this Germanic chap Freud."
