I would head to 14th Street. For places that don't take reservations (Doi Moi, Pearl Dive), just get there before 6 and you won't have any trouble getting a table. Also recommend Blue Duck Tavern and Rasika (both Penn Quarter and West End), Kapnos, Graffiato, Red Hen, Birch & Barley, and if you really want to splurge, Fiola Mare.

The thing you can get in DC that's better than anywhere else is Ethiopian. Very veggie-friendly. Tons of options to choose from but just to throw one out there, Meskerem in Adams Morgan.
You could try Farmers and Fishers on the Georgetown Waterfront. Same people as Founding Farmers, lots of great vegetarian options, yummy drinks, and a great view. Afterwards, stay on the waterfront at one of the bars or walk a few blocks into Georgetown.
Thanks everyone!!

Don't take vegetarians to raise the steaks. What about rosa Mexicana or farmers fishers bakers?

We are new here, also in Arlington, and I'm under the impression that Old Ebbitt Grill is very "DC." We went a couple of weeks ago and it had good atmosphere and great food. It's noisy in the front but nice in the back by the indoor courtyard.

I'm putting it out there but locals should weigh in on this.

My two girlfriends from Philadelphia are visiting Saturday night....my husband and I are new to DC/nova area. I have a 6 month old so I'm excited for the visit and excited for dinner out with my girlfriends sans baby!

They are both vegetarian but I am not! They both live in center city philly surrounded by such an awesome restaurant scene. I want to go somewhere with options for them, that's cool, in a great location...someplace unique. We are not looking to bar hop, but a nice place with great food/wine that's an easy taxi ride from Clarendon. DC or Clarendon/shirlington.

Any suggestions for this DC newbie?
