If u ladies think the mirena is bad for perforating organs you have no idea how bad essure is! They perforate tubes uterus end up on organs like bowel appendix embedded in uterine wall. There r serious complication and health issues from essure
Women r having multiple surgeries to remove the coils they can't be pulled out because they break into bits . There are no long term studies done on essure only up to five years and even those studies are not accurately reported. Do not let them fool u. It's not great it has costed years of womens lives like myself have had three surgeries now bc of this crap!

Please do not make the same mistake that thousands of us have. Do not put this foreign thing in ur body it is made of nickel and pet fibers the fibers cause chronic inflammation and a load of autoimmune responses. You can develop a nickel sensitivity after long term exposure. Besides they migrate and women r getting pregnant years later after being confirmed blocked.

I'm on my 2nd Mirena and intend to continue until menopause. I checked the strings initially but don't do it regularly. I love it!

I had a mirena, they left the strings relatively long and they were easy to feel with a finger stuck up there in the shower whenever I thought of it. My husband couldn't feel the strings, so it was fine to leave them longish.

"checking for strings" sounds like a pretty low-maintenance alternative to "being pregnant when you don't want to be, for nine months, ending in labor and delivery." Seriously, PP?

I have a Mirena. I've never checked for the string. I don't get a period and I've never gotten pregnant. I feel like if it were to fall out into the toilet, I'd notice. (I've also had no side effects whatsoever, which is pretty sweet.)

Honestly, I don't check my string. I had the six-week check, of course, and my OB checks it at my annual exam, and I don't really worry about it.

It's definitely not idiot-proof. I have a friend who couldn't feel hers for a couple of months and figured she just wasn't doing it right, and by the time the drs discovered that her IUD had perforated her uterus and swam out into her abdominal cavity, she needed surgery and, sadly, an abortion. On the other hand, I have accidentally removed my IUD while digging around for the strings. Statistically though, issues will happen in the first six week or not at all, so maybe just use a backup method until your dr does a 6-week check and don't worry too much about feeling the strings after that.

eh. I've had IUDs for 14 years. I rarely checked my string.

I am 38, have two kids and we are done having kids, and I'm not a good candidate for the pill as I got pregnant a couple of years ago while religiously taking it at the same time every day.

At some point I will likely get essure but would like to wait a few more years until more data is in - I'm not an early adapter. Or, DH could get snipped, but I think that will take a while to get him on board and so for the next year or more, I'd like to do something else, and I'm thinking Mirena. However, this whole idea of a monthly string check is tough. I am not particularly afraid of my lady parts, but I've gotten a tampon stuck up there before and I'm just not good at digging around and getting things out. I'm afraid I won't be able to do the string checks correctly. Is it idiot-proof? Thanks for any info.
