There are some cultivars and species roses that will grow and bloom in the shade, but not a lot to select from

Well, they'll survive in less than full sun, but they do best in full sun.

OP here...that's what I was thinking. I bought them last year on clearance for only $4.00 each and they were tiny so I put them in containers. I was going to replant them this spring since they really flourished last year. Unfortunately, this winter was just too tough.

I love knock-outs. Unfortunately, I have to agree with 8:51 about them in containers. My double knock-outs in the ground have full leaves and buds. This was a very tough winter.

They should have new growth by now, for sure. Plants in containers don't have the same hardiness as plants in the ground, because the soil freezes all the way through. Sorry, toss them and get some new ones!

I had several small knock out roses planted in containers last year. This year the stalks are green, but there is no new growth. I've watered and fertilized. Do you think that they didn't make it through the tough winter?
