I've just been through this, but as a single parent. Have you considering switching professions? I was forced to reinvent myself because my field is contracting and skews young. Is there something besides teaching? Might you sign up with a staffing agency? (I just got a job. It feels like a miracle after what I've been through.)

I'm really sorry you're struggling OP. If the career services at your old university is open to universities, you may want to do a mock interview with them to see if there's anything in how you present yourself that's setting off red flags - your friends may not know how to tell you if you are, but a career services person would be able to discuss it with you.

It's a really challenging job market, OP, many very qualified people are in your position. You just have to keep networking and doing everything you can to promote yourself. Sorry, I've just been through it myself, and I know what you're going through Luckily, as a result of persistence, networking, & hard work, something turned up for me at the 11th hour.

OP here, thank you for the kind words. This is so true. One rejection e-mail I got stated that I was one of 500+ applicants, so yeah, it's hard. I guess I'll just have to keep plugging away at it. At least DH has a good job otherwise we'd be screwed!

This is just a vent post. I know that the job market is tough, but I've applied to SO MANY jobs - some that I am over qualified for too. The most recent one was so promising, it seemed like the perfect position for me, great work environment, opportunities for growth, etc. It seemed like they were really interested in me, which really got my hopes up. But I later find out that they decided to not hire for the particular position I applied for. So bummed. I've been piecing together part time work for the past three years and it sucks.
