We did wood wainscoting along the walls, along with tile floors and tile shower stall. Was very reasonable.

+ I agree with this too. We got inexpensive marble tile online, I think it was from Builder Depot or something, and white subway tile from Home Depot. Though, I don't really like accents or borders.

If you're talking marble, I'd go with it on the floors and vanity tops. Then use a contemporary but subtle ceramic on the shower walls with an accent of the marble somewhere visible in the shower.

We liked Architectural Ceramics in Rockville because their showroom is so large. I needed to see examples to help me decide. Their Old Town Alexandria location has knowledgeable sales people too, but the shop is small. Budget time for the appointment.

You're supposed to have honed floors and polished walls so that you don't slip. The people at the tile place can help you. I would go higher on the walls. The floors, you can get very durable ceramic tile that looks very nice. Or go really high end on your vanities, glass, fixtures, get a steam shower, towel warmers. And use ceramic and porcelain from the same family for your floors and walls.

We don't have an unlimited budget for bathroom tile. We love natural stone, but that's pricey. If you have to mix high price and lower price tile, is it better to get the higher priced tile for the floor or the walls?

Also, how do you think it looks to mix honed finish with polished finish? Say honed floors but polished walls?
